Roman Curia: Parolin pushed out, Erik Varden eyed for Divine Worship

A rumor reported by Tribune Chrétienne and picked up by Infovaticana places Secretary of State Parolin and the Bishop of Trondheim at the heart of a possible reshuffle.

The fact

On July 25, 2026, Infovaticana relayed information from Tribune Chrétienne mentioning a possible reshuffling of the Roman Curia. Two names are circulating: Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State since 2013, whose replacement at the head of the Secretariat of State is being considered, and Bishop Erik Varden, Bishop of Trondheim, a territorial prelature located in central Norway, who is being considered to head the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments. Infovaticana explicitly states that no official announcement from the Holy See confirms these speculations to date.

Our reading (in light of the magisterium)

We had noted (#1162) the appointment of Giovanni Boscia to the general management of the IOR, the first move by which Leo XIV tightens the Vatican financial apparatus. A reshuffling of the Curia would extend the logic of Praedicate Evangelium (Apostolic Constitution, Francis, March 19, 2022), which reorganized the dicasteries around the evangelizing mission. The case of Varden deserves attention: a Cistercian monk, former Lutheran received into the Catholic Church, he embodies a liturgical theology rooted in the monastic tradition, without sterile nostalgia. His possible appointment would send a strong doctrinal signal about the meaning of the liturgy, in the spirit of Sacrosanctum concilium n° 7 (Vatican II, 1963): "rightly is the liturgy considered the exercise of the priestly function of Jesus Christ."
